Happy EASTER !!!!
Great news from the fields! It looks like nearly none of our
Swiss Chard is falling prey to the usual hazards that affect that
plant. It looks like it's going to be a bumper season!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year's from your friends at
Growlite Farms!
Unlike those 'baby-cut' carrots you might find shrinkwrapped in
the freezer aisle at the store, our Baby Carrots are specially
grown and bred to a smaller size, making them sweeter and more
tender than regular carrots. These babies are difficult to grow and
generally yield low numbers come harvest time, so if you want to
experience the carrot like you never imagined, keep an eye on our
twitter feed; we'll let you know when we ship the harvest and
where.
Widely considered one of the most nutritious greens on the
planet and extemely popular in Mediterrainian cuisine, Swiss Chard
has been bred for centuries by European farmers, with the earliest
crops tracing back to Sicily. Although they are very closely
related to beets, chard is known for its bitter taste and the
reddish color in the stalk often causes it to be confused with
rubarb. Look for our spring crop of Swiss Chard in your local
grocery soon!
A classic taste for foodies that dates all the way back to the ancient Greeks! Our perennial artichoke harvests are a local favorite every spring, and this year is looking to be a bumper crop. Be on the lookout for special deals this year, because really, we're not all that sure if we'll know what to do with the surplus. If you've never tried this succulent flower, steamed with dill and slathered with garlic butter, then we at Growlite Farms cannot attest to your having lived yet!
